How about this?
Wed, May 17, 2006 - 9:54 PMHow about when you go out to eat with your friends and they insist on grabbing some sort of periodical (Guardian, SF Weekly, The Onion, etc) to read while waiting for your food and then while eating. I can't fucking stand that. -

Thu, May 18, 2006 - 12:37 PMThe best part (if there was such a thing) was when the perpetrator would come walking out wafting their stank and we'd both go, "YOU KNOW YOU JUST DID THAT!! DAMMMMMN!!!" Then we'd watch as they would scurry back to their seat with their head hung in shame....

Bob Marley
Thu, May 18, 2006 - 12:05 PMI seriously can't fucking stand ANYthing by Bob Marley. I know this makes a bit of a traitor to my generation but really...
I was forced--FORCED I say--to listen to the Legand album all thru high school asnd leem just say there is nothing more pathetic (OK well there a few things more pathertic...) than a bunch of privilaged white kids, stoned on the reefer, singing along to songs about opperession and trying to feel it, deeply. Singing with their eyes closed even. These kids eventually went on to illustrious careers at prestigeous universities, Yale even, and occasionally still take the marajuana. I mean it's about as pathetic as the middle aged guys who sing along with "Margaritaville" with their eyes closed and even get a bit weepy whenever they hear it. So now a days whenever I hear any track off that record; two little birds, no woman no cry, buffalo soldier; it illicits the same loathing and ire in me that those sweaty summer evenings back in the "burbs.
Yeah. can't fucking stand Bob Marley.
Wow. I feel so much better now. -
-
Re: Bob Marley
Thu, May 18, 2006 - 12:15 PMcool, so then what youre saying ian is, i should open with a marley remix after your set tomorrow night??
ok, ok.....seriously, though.......try 6 years in santa cruz! it took most of that time to even remember why i loved bob in the first place, let alone be able to listen to more than one song without feeling panicked and unexplainably violent......to this day, when i walk into a household with a bob marley poster on the wall, i'm still known to walk directly out with no explanation..........

Re: so sad..
Thu, May 18, 2006 - 2:57 PMi can't stand bob marley.
i am one of those who would read the guardian while eating with satsi.
and i still want to know if tribe even gives a shit whether we still post on threads or not.
-

Re: so sad..
Thu, May 18, 2006 - 2:59 PMi might even make the guardian stand up like a shield between me and satsi while i eat and read.

also:
Thu, May 18, 2006 - 2:58 PMi want more martina on tribe. i think that might even be the root of our problems. maybe if we get her back on here everything'll go back to normal. i mean, really--don't you miss her?
seriously. -
-
Re: also:
Thu, May 18, 2006 - 3:13 PMyeah I miss martina as well. I saw her at Camel Toe but that was it for months.
AND
I've seen your Bob Marley collection. your alphabitized bob marley collection. both on Digital and vinyl. -
-
Re: also:
Thu, May 18, 2006 - 3:18 PMdude. if you've seen my various collections, then you know the presence or absence of an artist denotes pretty much nothing in the grand scheme of whether or not they interest me in the slightest. nice try though.
and are you thereby intimating that you own not a SINGLE marley track, in any form...? -
-
Re: also: FYI
Thu, May 18, 2006 - 3:24 PMyou DID however introduce me the polyphonic spree. Who, I might add, is putting oput a new record soon.

vibration.

the real question is: when is God Speed You Black Emperor gonna release another genius recording? -
-
Re: also: FYI
Thu, June 29, 2006 - 4:32 PM>the real question is: when is God Speed You Black Emperor gonna release another genius recording?
No time soon, if you take Mogwai's last effort as any example. Apparently mediocrity tends to follow genius.
But most likely it'll be just after the next release by His Infernal Majesty (HIM). They take turns, don't ya know? Along with "And They Shall Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead" (Is that the longest band name ever ?) They're all just sham front bands for Rick Rubin anyway.

Fri, May 19, 2006 - 5:12 AMand thanks for starting this threat de falco. i was actually just thinking about this tribe and how it's like a cumbucket that collects party spam rather than cum. The right phrasing never came, so i just kept the thought to myself and moved on.

HEY smartina!

Re: martina.
Fri, May 19, 2006 - 11:29 AMI went to public schools. I still don't ahve a firm graspe of the dictionary definition of Ironic. and that alanis song didnt help either.
You should listen to some speed metal while you bang your head. Its fun. we used to do that in the public schools. -

Re: martina.
Fri, May 19, 2006 - 11:50 AMEthan Hawke told me the definition of irony was:
"...when the actual meaning is the complete opposite from the literal meaning."
but I think that's an oversimplification.
this guy did a great job of reviewing the irony content of Alanis' song:

Re: martina.
Fri, May 19, 2006 - 11:56 AMya know ethan hawke is a lot taller than you might think. and smells of Drakkar Noir.
not exactly ironic but, odd? -
-
Re: martina.
Fri, May 19, 2006 - 12:07 PMhmmm, what's odd is that's exactly what i think of when people say "ethan hawke"
tall and wafting of overly masculine cologne. no, wait, replace the cologne with "ambiguously intellectual". i hear his book is ok. ok, i didn't actually hear that, i read it. so never mind. -
-
Re: martina.
Fri, May 19, 2006 - 12:19 PMirony all over the place.
fuck man.
this whole thread tends to make me question my perception of reality.
-
-
Re: martina.
Fri, May 19, 2006 - 3:50 PMIrony is a motherfucka. Serendipity is more to my liking, but they both rely on a dash of chaos with a hint of improvisation. Reflecting in those moments can really spin you up or spin you down, it all matters on your timing, vocals, and perspective to your Perception.
So here's a good one for the Halls of Irony. Remember just a few weeks ago when George Bush was laughing at himself with an impersonator in what was certainly one of the more bold attempts at IRONY. Nothing better than making light of the world's plight and suffering of innocent Iraqis. It was a strange kind of roast of sorts, only here we had W making light of a terribly bad situation cuz he can and/or cuz he really doesn't give a fuck an/or even has half a clue as to what his minions and masters in government and business are doing to real FREEDOM and LIBERTY here and abroad. So what if all signs point to impending doom. He can just laugh it all away and chalk it up to Irony, I mean he's with the Jesus. God talks to him, and I think there is some verse in the Bible that tells folks to laugh at themselves from time to time. Good advice fo sho. In a sense be IRONIC. After all, irony is but folly from the unexpected, often serendipitous or synchronistic or all of the above. Thar be Wisdom up in thar experiences from time to time, else a chance to reflect on what just fucking happened and why this is potentially so freaking important to me and all my friends on tribe and beyond???
The Greeks used irony in their tragedies as a technique to reveal the full significance of a character's words or actions even though that character in question was unaware as to what's really going on-even though he was reciting the lines himself. A plot device if you would...Ahhhh, ignorance is Bliss.
I guess in a way Bush has done like the ancients and used his literary savvy and theatrical prowess to take command of that aged old device we call IRONY so as to perhaps make peace with himself and find that Bliss only ignorance can redeem. But shit damn howdy, in the process he unknowingly revealed to the World a most cruel and treacherous tragedy for our modern times, written in blood and soaked oil. As we didn't know. Maybe he didn't and now ironically knows the emperor wears no clothes and really is doing baaaad things. I doubt it even caused a stir in his reptilian brain. Progress at all costs.
We too ironically continue along in our blissful ignorance, pretending that there's nothing we can do to change the current course of affairs. Rolling with the punches. White folks singing reggae with their eyes closed...Apathy?? Zen? Kabbalah?? No we must keep on doing our thang, buying stuff no person ever needed but somehow now is a necessity, partying, drinking Frapuccinos, popping pharmies, smoking the kind-kind, pandering away precious presence to the tube or tribe or somespace that used used to be my space or yourspace or herspace but still may or may not exist in the scattered remains of an ADD riddled neurotic noosphere bent on relying more and more on the contrived devices and ploys used by those for millennia who only sought by EGO to so arrogantly take, take, take, and then take some more, until all that this good land has to give is no more. Folks, we still have a lot of work to do before it's check out time. There's no Irony is that...
Ironically, there are more of Us than there are of them, but who are WE?? Are we really all that? Well-intended, peace Loving folks who are the real stewards of our Garden? Well? Seems we're lost yet AGAIN in Empire's quest for dominion over the people and planet cuz God says it just wouldn't be a party unless someone or something got blown to bits or trampled under foot by way of Fear in the name God. EGO is three letter word and that seems to be where we keep fear so readily available for when it counts....Fear keeps us focused on the games played somewhere someplace some call the "Real World", even though ironically this world we collectively experience is steeped high and deep with the veil Illusion. Ironically we look outside ourselves for the Truth rather than inside cuz that's what tragedies and drama are here for. To remind us that shit could be a whole lot worse if we really intended it to be, I mean we humans love a good melodrama. All the fanfare and celebrity. Oh the gala...Tis rather grand at times, yet often when you leave the theatre or the rave or the opera or the ritual, you still are left with yourself. Invariably, when we pass from these bodies, we leave with nothing but ourself-unless, of course, Death is the Grandness Irony of them all...
Ironically, something really amazing will happen right when we all thought it couldn't get any worse.
Ironically, we just might remember that Intention is nine-tenths of the Law.
Ironically, you will BE right where you are supposed to BE...forevermore.
Just try and floss your teeth more. -
